Practices & Tournaments

Most groups practice 2–3 times per week, depending on the season. Advanced or competitive groups may have additional training sessions.

Wrestlers should wear athletic clothes (shorts and a t-shirt) and wrestling shoes. Headgear is optional but recommended. For tournaments, a singlet is required. Bring water and a good attitude!

Please talk to a coach or team parent. We often coordinate carpool options to support families in need of transportation help.

Tournament participation is encouraged but not required. We understand that every family and child has different goals, and we support each wrestler’s journey.

Tournaments are typically all-day events held on weekends. Wrestlers are matched by age and weight and compete in round-robin or bracket-style formats. Coaches and parents will be there to support and guide new families.

We share a calendar of upcoming tournaments and provide instructions for how to register. Coaches will help guide you through the process.

We do not encourage weight cutting, especially for youth wrestlers. Our focus is on skill development, health, and long-term growth. Wrestlers will be placed in natural weight classes.

Other Questions

We sanitize mats regularly, encourage proper hygiene, and ask that wrestlers with skin infections or illnesses stay home. Parents should check their child’s skin and overall health regularly and report any concerns.

Parents can volunteer at events, help with transportation, join fundraising efforts, or assist with administrative tasks. Talk to a coach or staff member if you’d like to help out!

Freestyle and Greco-Roman are international styles of wrestling practiced in the Olympic Games.

  • Freestyle allows leg attacks and scoring from exposure (back exposure points). Encourages creativity and speed.
  • Greco-Roman focuses on upper body technique—no attacks below the waist. Both styles are introduced during the offseason to help wrestlers develop new skills and improve their overall game.
